Matt and Sara first met on a blind date on November 21, 2003,
where they went to see the movie Elf. Matt's mom, Ruthie, gets
the credit for the two getting together. Ruthie met Sara through
Junior Achievement's Exchange
City program, and
thought they would make a good match.
It is ironic Matt and Sara had never met before. Growing
up, they had lived less than 5 miles from each other north of Fort Wayne.
Both went to Carroll
High School (Matt
is 2 years older). Also, both attended Indiana University-
Bloomington, where they were even in Read dormitory at the same time
for one year.
During their courtship, Matt graduated with an MBA from the the University of Chicago, while continuing
full-time work at GE. Sara continued work as Director of
Experiential Learning at Junior Achievement. During the first
year, Matt and Sara realized they had much in common. They have
similar life goals and beliefs and compliment one another.
On their 16th month anniversary, Matt proposed to Sara at her
favorite place in world; on the beach, at night. The two were on
vacation at Paradise Island,
Bahamas.
Matt was successful in surprising Sara, as she was convinced he had not
even gone ring shopping yet. Sara was very excited. All who
know Sara would understand, that the wedding plans started the very
next day.
